All My Life — #ThingADay 6/31

Below is the sixth poem for the SongADAO #ThingADay challenge:

We need to wear masks now,
but it’s alright.
I’ve worn a mask
all my life.

They ask that we separate,
but it’s alright.
I’ve been isolated
all my life.

I trained for this
and yet it’s not easier.
A prison of one’s own
making is different when
you threw away the key.
